Now Accepting All Major Connecticut Insurance

Monica Marcello MS, RD, CDN
Founder and Owner of Dietitian Driven

I was a competitive gymnast for ten years at CATS Gymnastics in Cheshire, CT. Ironically, for a whole decade of my life, Route 10 (Highland Ave, Cheshire, CT) was the most important road to me—driving 30 minutes each way from Middletown to train. Fifteen years later, that same road became the home of the first Dietitian Driven office.

When injuries ended my gymnastics career, I found a second chance in diving.

That path led me to UConn, where I became a 2x team captain, 3x school record holder, and NCAA All-American.

To this day, movement is my happy place. I love flipping, running, biking, hiking, swimming, rollerblading, yoga—you name it. (Full disclosure: I’m actually terrible at most of them. Gymnastics and diving are really my only two tricks.)

Outside of work, I love my husband, my dog, and anything that keeps me connected to community.

Why I Started Dietitian Driven

Since I was a kid, I’ve always been both a dreamer and a doer.

I wanted everything:

I believe in healthcare as a right, not a privilege — in access for all, and in doing everything I can to help people live better, fuller lives.

I’ve always been intrigued by the life cycle of food — how it begins in our food systems, through farming and growing, and continues through cooking and connection. Food grounds us in the earth, in culture, and in each other.

& yeah, I’ve got a little wellness girly in me — the kind who still gets swept up by colorful meals, cozy kitchen routines, and dreamy smoothie bowls on Instagram.

Early in my career, I worked the typical RD jobs—just trying to gain experience.

But honestly? About five times a day, I’d find myself thinking:

I can do this better.

Better for patients. Better for providers. Better for everyone.

“I loved the field. I just hated the job.”

A clear purpose. A lot of drive. That’s how Dietitian Driven began.

Make individualized nutrition counseling affordable, accessible, and effective.

Integrate it fully into the traditional healthcare system.

Make life better for dietitians while doing it.

My Personal Health Journey

Years of injuries left me battling unwanted weight gain, body distrust, and periods of disordered eating—especially during transitions in and out of sports.

Like a lot of people, chronic stress eventually caught up with me. I developed a sticky, painful case of IBS, H. pylori and SIBO.

With a strong emphasis on nutrition and collaborating with other providers, I worked through it.

But the visceral hypersensitivity stuck.

It wasn’t until I did gut-directed hypnotherapy (yep, an actual therapist for my gut) that I finally started living 98% symptom-free.

That experience — the real-life understanding of the intersection of pain, physiology, and psychology — changed the way I think about care.

It shaped the kind of care I wanted to give — thoughtful, connected, and well beyond “eat this, not that.”

Why We Do Things Differently at Dietitian Driven

We are not prescriptive, transactional, or siloed.

We don’t toss you a handout and hope for the best.

We understand that nutrition care is about way more than food — it’s about evidence-based nutrition, behavior change, and helping you build a more peaceful relationship with food.

We also don’t do false promises.

If we can’t help you alone, we’ll tell you. Always.

Where I Am Now

I am not currently accepting new patients (but the rest of our lovely team is!). I take initial inquiry calls and ensure that I am accessible to our patients. It’s important to me that every single person who comes to DD knows:

    • You matter.

    • Your health is important.

    • We don’t take your trust for granted.

We’re a small business—hoping one day we won’t be so small.
We’re building an insurance-based, patient-centered nutrition counseling practice here in Connecticut (and maybe beyond).
